TRADE: Yankees set to Land $62 Million DEAL

The New York Yankees had a strong showing at the trade deadline, though there was potential for even more activity.

In the months leading up to the deadline, the Yankees were frequently mentioned in connection with nearly every player rumored to be available. With high expectations for the 2024 season, it was anticipated that the Yankees would make significant moves to bolster their roster.

Indeed, the Yankees made key acquisitions, strengthening their bullpen and adding Jazz Chisholm Jr. to provide versatility across the field. These additions have positively impacted the team’s performance, aligning with the high expectations for their season.

Despite their successful moves, the Yankees reportedly sought to make additional trades. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees were one of six teams that inquired about a possible deal involving Blake Snell with the San Francisco Giants.

“Let me get to the teams that actually called on Snell because I don’t think I revealed all six teams anywhere,” Heyman said. “Yankees, (Baltimore Orioles), (Chicago Cubs), (San Diego Padres), (Los Angeles Dodgers), (and) (Texas Rangers).”

While multiple insiders had linked the Yankees to Snell prior to the deadline, Heyman’s revelation is the first comprehensive list of teams that contacted San Francisco.

Blake Snell ultimately was not traded and now faces a decision regarding his player option for the 2025 season. If he declines the option and enters free agency, it would not be surprising to see the Yankees express interest again.

The Yankees’ moves at the trade deadline addressed key needs and have already shown positive results, but their interest in further bolstering their roster indicates an ongoing commitment to strengthening their team for future success.
