TRANSFER: Leicester City Eye Premier League Veteran

After securing a swift return to the Premier League last season, Leicester City are now targeting a player with significant experience in England’s top flight.

Early Moves in the Transfer Market

Under the leadership of new manager Steve Cooper, Leicester City has acted swiftly to strengthen their squad. The club’s first acquisition of the summer was the experienced attacker Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who joined on a free transfer from Fulham. The Jamaica international signed a three-year deal and is expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming season.

Further Additions

Following De Cordova-Reid, Leicester made additional signings, including Caleb Okoli from Atalanta for a rumored £11.8 million and Michael Golding from Chelsea for £5 million. These moves signal Leicester’s intent to build a competitive squad for the Premier League season.

Ongoing Transfer Activity

Leicester’s transfer activity is far from over, as the club continues to pursue new talent. The latest player linked with a move to the Midlands is Lens striker Elye Wahi, who is also attracting interest from West Ham and Chelsea. With Kelechi Iheanacho recently joining Sevilla, Leicester is actively seeking to strengthen their forward options.

Targeting Jordan Ayew

According to Standard Sport journalist Dom Smith, Leicester has made a formal bid for Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew. The 32-year-old Ghanaian, who has extensive Premier League experience, is seen as a top target for Leicester in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Ayew has had a notable career in England, with stints at Swansea City, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace, amassing 274 Premier League appearances and scoring 37 goals. Last season at Selhurst Park, Ayew made 35 league appearances, contributing four goals and seven assists.

A Proven Premier League Performer

While Ayew’s signing may not be the most glamorous, his work ethic and reliability make him a valuable addition. Former Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson praised Ayew in 2019 for his exceptional effort and performance, highlighting his “super-human powers” in terms of work rate and contributions on the field.

With Leicester in need of players with proven Premier League experience, Ayew could be a smart acquisition to help the club navigate the challenges of top-flight football.
