TRANSFER: Man Utd Offers €87 Million Star to AC Milan

Manchester United has reportedly offered Harry Maguire to AC Milan as they seek to secure a transfer fee for the center-back. The England international, who joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for a record fee for a defender, has had a mixed tenure at Old Trafford.

Struggles and Criticism

Maguire’s initial seasons with United were solid, but he later became the target of significant criticism after a series of poor performances. Despite the backlash, often deemed excessive, Erik ten Hag made it clear last summer that Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were his preferred choices for the central defense, stripping Maguire of the captaincy.

This Season’s Revival

This season, injuries and inconsistent performances from others provided Maguire with another opportunity. He made 18 Premier League starts and will represent England in Euro 2024. However, United has already released Raphael Varane on a free transfer, and the futures of Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof remain uncertain.

Interest from AC Milan

Italian reports suggest that United is eager to offload Maguire, whose contract expires in 2025, to Milan. The club’s new co-owners, INEOS, reportedly have no plans to renew his contract and aim to earn a transfer fee before it expires.

Transfer Market Plans

United is actively looking to reinforce their defense this summer. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano identified Jean-Clair Todibo, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Gleison Bremer as potential targets for a right-footed center-back. Additionally, they are considering signing a left-footed center-back, with Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio on their radar. Inacio has a €60m release clause and is also being monitored by Liverpool, making it a competitive situation to watch.

Conclusion

As United navigates this transitional period, the potential transfer of Harry Maguire could play a key role in reshaping their defensive lineup. The upcoming moves in the transfer market will be critical for the club’s future success.
