Williams has announced a change to their driver lineup ahead of the upcoming Formula 1 British Grand Prix this weekend.
The British team, currently positioned ninth in the constructors’ standings after facing significant challenges this season, has decided to make adjustments in hopes of improving their performance.
Last season, Williams amassed 28 points, setting high expectations for drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant to elevate the team’s standings in 2024. However, with Albon securing only two points, largely from a strong Monaco showing, and Sargeant yet to score, the team has struggled to compete for top-10 finishes consistently.

Following their recent difficulties at the Austrian Grand Prix, where both drivers faced formidable obstacles, the team is making strategic changes. While Albon has reaffirmed his commitment to Williams, Sargeant’s future with the team appears uncertain, with speculation suggesting Carlos Sainz as a potential replacement.
In preparation for the Silverstone race, Williams has decided to give an opportunity to one of their promising young talents. Franco Colapinto, aged 21 and a member of the Williams Driver Academy since 2023, will take over from Sargeant for FP1 at the historic circuit. Colapinto has demonstrated his skills in Formula 2 this season, earning him this chance to showcase his capabilities in Formula 1.
Expressing his excitement about the opportunity, Colapinto emphasized the significance of this moment in his career. He intends to maximize his preparation by spending extensive time in the simulator and studying the intricacies of this year’s car.
Driving at Silverstone holds special meaning for Colapinto, considering it as one of his favorite tracks and being Williams’ home race. He conveyed gratitude to his supporters, particularly Argentine fans, promising to give his best effort to make them proud during FP1.
This move underscores Williams’ commitment to nurturing young talent and potentially revitalizing their competitive edge as they navigate through the challenges of the 2024 season.
