Wolfgang Van Halen on Mammoth WVH’s Expanding Fanbase: “It’s Crazy — It’s Not Just 40+ Year-Old Van Halen Fans Anymore”

Wolfgang Van Halen is proving that Mammoth WVH isn’t just riding on the coattails of a legendary name — it’s carving out its own path, and fast. In a recent interview, the multi-instrumentalist opened up about the band’s steadily expanding audience and how surprised he is by the wide range of people connecting with his music.

> “It’s crazy,” Wolfgang said. “You always expect that maybe a lot of the people coming out to shows are longtime Van Halen fans — 40-plus, maybe 50-plus. But it’s been amazing to see younger fans showing up, singing along, and really getting the music. That’s what makes it special.”

Mammoth WVH’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. Since the release of their self-titled debut in 2021, Wolfgang has built a reputation for authenticity, powerful songwriting, and jaw-dropping live performances. With 2023’s Mammoth II further cementing his identity as a frontman and creative force, the project has grown from a passion endeavor into one of modern rock’s most respected acts.

> “I think people are realizing it’s not about who my dad was — it’s about what this band is doing right now,” Wolfgang continued. “It’s been really rewarding to see fans of all ages come together for something new, something honest.”

While there’s no denying the Van Halen legacy looms large, Wolfgang has been intentional about steering Mammoth WVH into its own orbit. His decision to write, perform, and record all the instruments on the albums has allowed him to showcase his versatility while keeping the sound uniquely personal.

That independence has struck a chord with audiences worldwide. Whether it’s the thunderous riffs of “Another Celebration at the End of the World” or the emotional weight of “Distance,” fans — both young and old — have found something to connect with.

> “When you see kids in the front row wearing Mammoth shirts, not Van Halen shirts — that’s when you know you’re doing something right,” he laughed. “It means the music is standing on its own.”

As Mammoth WVH continues to tour and earn critical praise, it’s becoming clear that Wolfgang’s legacy is no longer just about carrying a name — it’s about defining one.
